University of the Southwest (USW) is excited to present an innovative opportunity for individuals seeking a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Sport Education and Administration that includes a culmination of 18 hours of sport specific courses designed for applicability with each student in mind. Students will gain leadership expertise at the collegiate and interscholastic levels of this growing industry. You as a student will have the opportunity to increase your understanding through a blend of practical application and doctoral research on the influences that impact sport and athletics. Each student will explore the underlying controversial issues in today’s domestic and global sports culture, utilize strategic planning principles and create awareness of legal, financial, and organizational concerns. If you are ready to become an inspirational change agent and leader within a sport organization, athletic department, a professional sports team, governing body, intercollegiate or high school athletics, USW’s EdD is your ideal choice.
An EdD in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Sport Education & Administration is ideal for any individual that has the goal of becoming an athletic administrator, educator, athletic coach, collegiate professor, recreation director, strength and conditioning coach, event manager, or work within a professional sport organization. By incorporating a concentration focus of 18 hours, graduates of the program will have completed the academic credentialing to become a collegiate professor in the area of Sport, which can open doors into an area for many young professionals. The Sport Education & Administration, EdD offers a multi-faceted 100% online course delivery by experienced instructors and practitioners within the field of Sport.

Required:
- A conferred master’s degree from a regionally accredited university;
- A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, or higher, on a four-point scale in all graduate coursework;
- Three years, or more, of industry experience in the selected field of study;
- Official masters transcript(s)

- Current resume/cv
- Two letters of reference
Preferred:
- A conferred MEd or master’s degree in the field of education from a regionally accredited university;
- A grade point average (GPA) of 3.5, or higher, on a four-point scale in all graduate coursework;
- Two years, or more, of classroom experience and three years of experience in administration;
- Official masters transcript(s)

*Program admission essay is an opportunity to demonstrate to the committee why you wish to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of the Southwest and showcase graduate-level writing abilities for their consideration. The essay should be 1,000-1,500 words explaining what you hope to achieve by pursuing a doctoral degree, the personal strengths that will help you succeed in a doctoral program, and describe how obtaining a EdD will help you institute a positive social change within your chosen field or industry.
